The Fresno Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Splog [Retitled and Updated 16 September 2009, 20 September 2009]
In followup to this post, I searched Twitter for mentions of “It’s Never Too Late to Repent, John and Johnny” (the title of the most recent post a Fresno criminal defense lawyer’s web designer stole from me). I found that someone using the name of the Fresno criminal defense lawyer had twitted a mention of it with the shortened link “http://bit.ly/14VKgS” so I searched for that shortened link and found a bunch of retweets of that twit, by:
• maderalawyer (“Madera DUI Lawyer”):

and
• legalonlinenews (“Bill Clinton”); and
• tularelawyer (“Wade Moon”, same picture as Maderalawyer); and
• clovislawyer (“Jenny Lopez”):
; and
• monykass (“Duinta Lawson”—notice “DUI” and “Law”; isn’t she clever! The same name is attached to the fresnoclubs twitter account); and
• LawInvestigator (“Reson Lieberman”, which is also the name on the lawOUXfqfdui twitter account).
Every one of these twitter accounts lists the Fresno criminal defense lawyer’s website in its profile, as do these twitter accounts:
• Investigatorlaw (Randall White)
• Investigators4u (Sam Autolid)
• VisaliaLawyer (Smurder Wallace—heh heh she said “Murder”)
• VisaliaClubs (Mariah Oberson)
What is going on here? The Fresno criminal defense lawyer (or someone on her behalf—it makes no difference; outsource your marketing, outsource your ethics, and pay the price) is using a network of fictional Twitter accounts to create links to her website, where she’s scraping other people’s content without their permission. It’s all one great big manipulation.
[Update: from discussions with the Fresno criminal defense lawyer and Wayne Conley, her former client whom she allowed to promote her practice on the web, I have concluded that she was aware that he was creating a website for her, but did not understand the particulars of what he was doing on her behalf to promote her practice. Since Wayne Conley's past includes convictions for rape and obstruction of justice, a prison term, and a dishonorable discharge from the United States Army, I think the original title of this post, was fair, but may have been overly harsh.]
[Another update: since the Fresno criminal defense lawyer was duped by her web designer, I've decided to remove googleable references to her name.]
Fresno criminal defense lawyer, I think you’re gambling your license. The California State Bar is going to have something to say about a lawyer stealing other lawyers’ intellectual property and creating false Twitter accounts to get business, and whatever it has to say is not going to be nice.
Whatever pretty shiny things you’ve gotten by topping the Google search results for “Madera Criminal Lawyer” (but not “Fresno Criminal Lawyer”—our friend Rick Horowitz beats you there), it’s not worth it.

I think the title of “Madera Criminal Lawyer” has what we amateur detective types call a “clue.” Maybe she should lay off the Madera, and switch to decaf coffee.
When Esquire magazine covered email addresses that should warn you that a lawyer might not be great, they should have mentioned not to hire attys with topless profile shots, no matter how attractive they might be.
Have Jenny Lopez washed and sent to my room please.
UCSB undergrad, Hastings grad. Admitted to bar in 1993. Address in Madera.
[...] Evidently others can too. Then there’s Melina Beninghoff, who typifies the third sort of legal blogger. She doesn’t take the time or trouble to write her own blog, but she has good taste. She’s letting Mark Bennett write it for her. [...]

[...] If we—the bar, honest members of the practical blawgosphere—let people like Andy Nolen and the Fresno criminal defense lawyer slide with their flaming astroturf and their content scraping, we’ll only see more such [...]
