Houston Criminal Defense Lawyers

Mark Bennett is Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Jennifer Bennett is a criminal defense lawyer. Together we defend people accused of crimes in Harris County, in state courts across Texas, and in federal courts across the country.

We handle serious cases. If you or a loved one are charged with a crime and the outcome matters, call us at 713-224-1747. If it’s an easy case, a simple case, a small case, don’t.

What we defend

Violent crimes. Assault, aggravated assault, robbery, domestic violence, homicide. These cases may carry prison time measured in decades. The stakes demand a lawyer who has tried these cases to juries and won.

Sex crimes. Sexual assault, online solicitation of a minor, child pornography, indecency with a child, prostitution. A sex-crime accusation can destroy a life before the case is even tried. These cases require a defense built from the ground up, rigorously challenging everything, including the complainant’s account, the forensic evidence, and the investigative methods.

Drug crimes. Possession, manufacturing, distribution. Texas penalty groups determine the severity: a gram of cocaine is a state-jail felony; four grams is a second-degree felony. The weight of the substance, the circumstances of the search, and the legality of the stop all matter.

Property and financial crimes. Theft, burglary, fraud, embezzlement, criminal mischief. The line between a misdemeanor and a felony often turns on dollar amounts and prior history.

Federal crimes. Drug conspiracies, fraud, money laundering, firearms offenses, sex trafficking, child exploitation. Federal cases move faster, hit harder, and carry mandatory minimums that state courts do not. We defend in the Southern District of Texas and in federal courts nationwide.

Appeals and post-conviction

If you have already been convicted, we handle criminal appeals and habeas corpus proceedings at every level. Mark is one of very few Texas lawyers Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law. More about our appellate practice here.

Professional license defense

A criminal charge can put a professional license at risk: medical, legal, nursing, teaching, real estate. We work with licensing boards to protect careers while the criminal case is pending.
