While we’re on the topic of stupid blog tricks, I got this telephone call yesterday: “I was just googling my name, and I saw it on your blog. I want you to remove it.”

Um . . . okay. Who is this?

“Jeff Deutsch. “

I know who Jeff Deutsch is. Jeff writes the excellent but sporadic Building Common Ground blog, dedicated to “building common ground between people on the autism spectrum and those who love, work with and play with them.” I read Jeff’s blog, but we’ve never talked on the phone, and I have to admit that for a moment I wondered whether this was some sort of online Asperger’s episode.

I did a quick search on Defending People for Jeff’s name, and found that the only reference was an innocuous hat tip here. A small light dawned. “Are you the Jeff Deutsch that writes the Building Common Ground blog.”

“No.”

Did you click on the link to see how your name was mentioned?

“No, I didn’t know what it was, so I didn’t click on it.”

You do know that you’re not the only Jeff Deutsch in the world, right?

The thought had never even occurred to him.

    If he’d only change his name to Jeff Douche, there’s a 45% chance this problem would go away.

      I second the opinion so ardently espoused by Ken. And doubly so because my given name is Michael D. Fox and I am damn tired of finding so many people writing MY name all over the internet…..

    Dear Mr. Deutsch(es):

    I feel your pain. I get at least one email per week from someone who has googled my name and mistaken me for the Amy Derby who posts naked pictures of herself at mysun.co.uk. Rumor has it that she’s more attractive than I am, and I have a reputation to maintain. Thus, I plan to ‘rebrand’ myself online as “Zulu Queen of the Little People.”

    Do not let this Mark Bennett guy get you down. For what it’s worth, I googled him earlier and discovered that he’s not really a lawyer at all but is actually a Captain and full time fishing guide since 1992 (source: tarponsnook.com).

    Cheers,
    Zulu

    I knew a Jeff Deutsch from high school who was also in Lovett … probably not the same one though. :)

    And if he knew anything about this site, he would have known that the name was NEVER coming down, no matter who he was. Thanks for the chuckle.
